About the role
At Twilio, the Platform Engineering team is seeking a seasoned Staff Site Reliability Engineer to oversee the health and resilience of their production systems. This role involves designing reliable architectures, setting and monitoring SLIs and SLOs, and automating processes to ensure high service availability and performance. The engineer will work independently, applying deep expertise to improve infrastructure and respond to production issues across multiple services.
Daily responsibilities include owning the reliability of key services, leading incident responses, and conducting root cause analyses. The role requires writing maintainable code to enhance system dependability, orchestrating complex system changes, and mentoring peers through code reviews and design discussions. The engineer will also collaborate across teams to plan projects, track progress, and communicate technical updates effectively.
Candidates should have over 8 years of experience in reliability or platform engineering, with a proven track record of managing production systems and reducing operational toil. Familiarity with large-scale distributed cloud environments, incident management, and capacity planning is essential. Preferred skills include infrastructure-as-code, multi-region architecture, and proactive resilience testing such as chaos engineering. The position is remote, with occasional in-person meetings, and involves hands-on engineering work.
