About the role
At Baseten, the Agent Infrastructure team develops the foundational microVM technology that powers their AI agent sandboxes. These sandboxes run on custom Linux kernels atop bare-metal servers, enabling isolated, multi-tenant environments optimized for AI workloads. The team focuses on building a cloud platform designed from the ground up for secure, efficient, and scalable AI agent execution, emphasizing rapid iteration and ownership.
The Software Engineer in Compute and Isolation will manage the lifecycle of microVM sandboxes, including starting, stopping, snapshotting, and resuming them with high performance. They will tune both guest kernels and host hardware configurations to maximize efficiency and security. Responsibilities also include designing isolation boundaries, managing resources on physical machines, and debugging complex virtualization issues across software and hardware layers.
Candidates should have hands-on experience with KVM and related virtualization technologies like Firecracker or QEMU, along with deep Linux internals knowledge. Proficiency in systems programming languages such as Rust, Go, or C/C++ is required. The role is hybrid, based in San Francisco or New York, and suits engineers passionate about building multi-tenant cloud infrastructure with strong security and performance demands.
